Chamber Board Approves Healthcare Alliance
08/24/09 The Chamber’s Board of Directors has unanimously approved a recommendation from the Legislative Action Committee that the organization lend its name and support to the Chamber Alliance for Healthcare Reform (CAHR). This effort, initiated by the Detroit Regional Chamber, supports comprehensive healthcare reform that will rein-in the cost of healthcare, improve quality and expand access. It also strongly opposes the Obama Administration’s plan to place healthcare under the umbrella
of the federal government. Chamber members will begin to receive educational material from CAHR and will be encouraged to contact those in Congress from Pennsylvania, in particular those who support the government plan. “Our committee believes that our involvement will augment the work of chambers from throughout the country as we consider what’s best for business,” reported Chamber President Joe Hurd. “We’re hoping that our membership feels a sense of obligation to get involved and to be relentless
in opposing the Obama Plan.”
Employee Free Choice Act
Chamber Members can let their opinions be heard to Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senators on the controversial Employee Free Choice Act. If that legislation passes it will likely mean significant problems for employers and employees in Blair County. Known as the “Card Check Bill,” the Employee Free Choice Act has strong partisan support and President Barack Obama has indicated he will sign the legislation if and when it comes to his desk. The Blair County Chamber opposes the Employee Free Choice Act. (Sample Letter)
