The focus of this award is to recognize those persons in our community who have displayed outstanding performance in either an individual or a collaborative endeavor. The Small Business Person of the Year award has been established in recognition of the outstanding contributions of small business to the economy and overall progress of the Blair County area. This award is designed to recognize the individual who is a driving force behind the company rather than the company itself.
To be eligible for this award, the candidate and his or her business must meet the following criteria.
- The company must be a member of The Blair County Chamber of Commerce and an owner, partner, major shareholder or key personnel providing active day-to-day management.
- The Candidate and his or her business must have been established locally for at least three years. During that time, the company will have demonstrated profitable growth in sales or unit volume and the creation of new jobs.
- The company must employ 50 employees or less according to Chamber record at time of nomination.
- The candidate must have demonstrated leadership evidenced by diversification, creativity, and imagination in the development of new products and markets.
- The candidate and his or her company will have demonstrated community involvement and commitment to specific community projects, including any active participation in The Blair County Chamber of Commerce.
- The conduct of the candidate must be above reproach with regard to ethics, quality and service. The candidate must project a positive community image.
- The Small Business Person of the Year honoree is not eligible to win again until the fifth year following the presentation.
