There are few issues that generate as much emotion and volatility as Municipal Consolidation. Pennsylvania's status as having the nation's second-largest number of municipal governments has created battlegrounds in some areas of the Commonwealth not generally known for confrontation or unreasonable behavior.
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce, through the Legislative Action Committee, has determined that the topic of consolidation is one worth discussing. The committee recognizes that its role as an advocate must be preceded by a greater understanding of the many sides of all issues of controversy, and the Summit on Municipal Consolidation will attempt to provide that educational piece.
The Chamber hopes that this Summit will be a first step in creating additional dialogue aimed at building consensus. We are grateful for the speakers, moderators and panelists who will be sharing their talents with us and to the businesses and organizations that have agreed to sponsor this event.
The agenda for the Summit will include a luncheon, four speakers (including Secretary Yablonsky), a panel discussion and an opportunity for attendees to interact in small groups. A networking reception from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. will wrap up the day. Links below provide more information.
