Job Description:
The courtroom tipstaff contributes to the efficient operation of the judge’s chamber and the courtroom by performing various duties that include, but are not limited to: preparing the bench; updating courtroom staff schedules; verifying litigant transport; ensuring microphones and recording devices are operational; setting up remote participation, if necessary; screening witnesses and visitors for appropriate court attire; opening court; swearing-in witnesses, as needed; completing and distributing court-related paperwork; monitoring activities of jurors; and serving as communication liaison among jury, court, and attorneys. Tipstaff duties also involve administrative tasks such as retrieving and preparing files for court events, assisting with copying, faxing, distributing mail, answering the phone, and filing civil and criminal notices.
Job Requirements
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma or GED; have at least six months’ experience in an office environment; strong customer service orientation; demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communications skills; computer literacy; abilities to effectively diffuse antagonistic dealings; and maturity to maintain confidential information.
